About Art Play Children Learning

Dr Louisa Penfold is a visual art and early childhood specialist currently working as a Research Fellow and Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

She is the founder of Art Play Children Learning, a blog on connecting contemporary art and children’s play.

Louisa has worked on the learning programs at international art museums including Tate (UK), the Serpentine (UK), and the Ipswich Art Gallery (Australia).

Her PhD research, run as a partnership between Tate and the University of Nottingham, looked at the design of children’s play spaces in modern art museums. 

Louisa writing on children’s art education has been published in MIT’s Journal of Design and Science, the Journal of Childhood Studies, and The Australian newspaper.

When not nerding out about art and education, she loves sewing, pot luck dinners, and the Australian summer!
